Cardiff –or Caerdydd- is the capital city of Wales which means that you might have some difficulties in understanding what the local people say because of their accent. It is already hard for an international student like me to understand what the English people say, let alone the welch ones! However, I really liked their accent!
Anyway, for my first day in Cardiff I visited THE Cardiff Castle. The visit is not free but as it is the most important place to go, I paid haha. You’ve got a kind of phone which gives you information while you’re walking around. It is really great because you can decide whether you want to fully listen or not. You can also walk inside the walls where beds (among other things) had been set during the Second World War to protect the people in case of bombing. It was really interesting to see how was the life like 75 years ago. You can also go inside the castle in which the rooms have been decorated in various styles due to the various owners who lived there. The visits lasted quite a long time (around 2h30 for me personally) because the place is really vast and interesting. Later on that day, I went to another National Museum & Art Gallery which was as fascinating as the previous one. Finally, I went to the Cardiff Bay but unfortunately I didn’t stay there a long time due to the rain. There you can walk along the seashore while admiring contemporary statues and buildings such as the Assembly of Wales or the Wales Museum Center. Further away, there is a museum dedicated to Doctor Who but I am not a fan so I didn’t visit it, instead I rank a hot chocolate in at the Mermaid’s Quay.
On the second day, I went shopping in two huge mall called respectively the David’s hall and the Capitol. On the afternoon, I went to Bute Park which is located right next to the Cardiff Castle. The place was wonderful, almost as beautiful as the Brandon Hill. It’s the perfect place to go running I think because you can enjoy the nature while doing effort. Indeed there were lots of runners and cyclists over there. Finally, the last thing to visit during my stay in Cardiff was the Cardiff Stadium in which international rugby team play. You can’t possibly miss that massive white building in the middle of the city centre: it was really impressive!
